Sign the pledge asking for Officer Stephens’ firing
Update: You can sign another petition asking the city to fire Officer Stephens.
Please read on for the petition:
We, the undersigned, ask the City Council and Mayor of the City of San Marcos, Texas to terminate the employment of Police Officer Paul Stephens immediately, on the grounds that he is unfit to be a public servant charged with “protecting and serving” the people within his jurisdiction.
Officer Stephens exhibited poor judgment in dealing with an incident involving Michael Gonzales and his dog, Missy. While Officer Stephens was justified in stopping a driver for excessive speed, the videotape shown on ABC’s Good Morning America on August 18th clearly indicates that Officer Stephens abused his authority while taking nearly 20 minutes to write a speeding ticket, and the result was possibly preventable death of a beloved animal. This is not the public image of law enforcement that should be associated with a city that bills itself as “the Jewel of the Corridor.”
As such, we pledge not to do business within, or with, the City of San Marcos until Officer Stephens’ separation from employment within the police force in that city.
